A LITTLE CAMERA HELP

Which Memory Card Fits an Old Digital Camera?

The card’s physical shape is only part of the answer. Your camera must support its card standard and capacity. Start with the memory-card section in the exact model’s guide.

SD and SDHC are not interchangeable in every camera.

Canon PowerShot SD500 recommends standard SD up to 2GB and does not support SDHC or SDXC. Canon PowerShot SD1000 lists SD/SDHC and uses 4GB SDHC as its simple choice here. Check the model before choosing a larger card.

Older Sony cameras may need Memory Stick.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55 uses Memory Stick Duo / PRO Duo rather than SD. Pair that card with the correct Memory Stick PRO Duo reader. The larger original Memory Stick format is not the same shape as Duo.

Some Olympus and Fujifilm cameras use xD.

Olympus Stylus Tough-6000 recommends an xD-Picture Card and matching xD reader. Its optional microSD route requires the correct Olympus attachment; a standard SD card is not a substitute.

Some earlier cameras use CompactFlash.

Canon PowerShot G2 has a CompactFlash guide. Match both the camera’s card requirement and the reader slot.

Before formatting.

Copy existing photos to another device first. Once you have a supported card and a backup, follow the camera manual’s formatting instructions. Formatting deletes the photos on the card.
